About the Program:

Chiropractic assistants provide support of chiropractic practice activities, including some direct patient services. University of Western States offers a hybrid CA training program that combines 8 hours of online learning and 4 hours of live, practical training. The program is designed to satisfy the requirements for initial CA certification in Oregon, however participants from other states will find the information and skills attained in this course to be broadly applicable to chiropractic practices elsewhere.

This 2-part program fulfills the Oregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ training requirements for initial certification as a chiropractic assistant.

8 Hour Online Chiropractic Assistant Study Course (CL 3460LE) – REGISTER HERE

This online course provides core content related to chiropractic practice and fulfills 8 of the 12 training hours required for certification as a Chiropractic Assistant in the State of Oregon. Course topics include certification requirements and regulations, medical terminology, chiropractic principles and techniques, patient/practitioner boundaries, HIPAA rules for the privacy and security of patients’ protected health information, sanitation/safety measures, basic anatomy, clinical documentation, procedure coding, indications and contraindications for physiotherapy modalities, exercise, and soft tissue therapies. This course should be completed prior to live, practical training.

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Explain the scope of practice of a chiropractic assistant in Oregon
  • Describe the certification requirements and regulations for CAs in Oregon
  • Describe the principles of chiropractic
  • Use basic medical terminology
  • Understand and maintain appropriate boundaries with patients
  • Understand and apply privacy and security measures for patient information
  • Apply safe and sanitary processes in clinical settings
  • Identify basic anatomical structures
  • Understand indications and contraindications for physiotherapy modalities, exercise, and soft tissue therapies
  • Identify and use appropriate clinical procedure coding
  • Help create and maintain appropriate clinical records

4 Hour Live, Practical Training – REGISTER HERE

This practical course provides live, hands-on training in common chiropractic office and patient care procedures, and fulfills 4 of the 12 hour required for certification as a Chiropractic Assistant in the State of Oregon. Course topics include interpersonal communication, medical terminology, diagnostic and procedure coding, physiotherapy modalities, proper gowning/draping techniques, therapeutic exercises, and professional boundaries.

After completing this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Practice proper body mechanics and ergonomics for working with patients in a clinical setting
  • Set up, use, and maintain a variety of physiotherapy modalities
  • Function as a chiropractic assistant in the chiropractic office
  • Understand the Oregon chiropractic assistant certification and renewal process
