Program & Concentration: Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine (HNFM)

Hometown: Luanshya, Zambia

Graduation Year: Fall 2015

Prior Education or Experience: BA in philosophy and international studies, doctor of naturopathy, master’s degree in public health. Worked with the Center for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) as a public health practitioner, and Arthur Davidson Children’s Hospital, and my own practice as a naturopath.

  1. Why did you choose UWS? Why did you choose HNFM? I chose UWS for its interesting sounding classes (compared to the standard class names I was seeing in other programs), and its online convenience. I chose HNFM because I wanted to refresh and gain a deeper understanding of nutrition to apply to my practice.
  1. What has been your favorite class/instructor? I loved Dr. Michael Gonzalez’s class “Oxidative Reductive Dynamics and Energy Production” – very insightful.
  1. What has been your experience with learning in HNFM’s online environment? Very mature, professional, and well-suited to busy individuals like me without compromising on quality education.
  1. What has been the most surprising part of the HNFM program at UWS? How open we all are about the pros and cons of the current health paradigm of the U.S.- that has now traversed the world via globalization.
  1. What do you hope to do after graduation? Besides completing the construction and orchestrating the running of the Giving Tree School of Advancement that I am currently building, I hope to find and pursue a doctorate in nutrition, a doctorate in stem cell biology, a degree in Tibetan Medicine. I want to spend a couple of years with traditional healers from all over the world, to learn the best techniques out of every culture and apply the skills and experience toward being the best healer the world has ever seen!
  1. WC: Favorite way to get some stress out from school? Favorite food/recipe? Favorite place to listen to online lectures (home, café, library, etc) and why? I relieve stress with yoga, meditation, playing with my 1-year-old son, or simply listening to nature. My favorite food is raw food taco salad (shredded varieties of lettuce, arugula, cabbage, onion, tomato, avocado, olives, with crumbled walnuts coated in cumin, chilli, and salt, as well as cashew/ almond nut cream cheese dressing (nuts blended with lemon juice, salt, and garlic). My favorite place to do school work is home, because I can keep one eye on my adorable but very naughty son!
