UWS/National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) Pathway to Dual Degree

Beginning summer 2015, current UWS DC degree candidates and UWS DC graduates will be eligible to apply to the NUHS ND program. Credit for courses taken at UWS transfer directly to NUHS and apply toward the completion of the ND requirements. The agreement requires that both the DC and the ND degree programs be completed within eight years of the earliest program matriculation. Learn more about the origin of this partnership.

Why should I consider an additional degree in Naturopathic Medicine?

Adding a ND degree to your DC credential will increase your career options and earning potential. You will have an expanded scope of practice (e.g. prescription rights, minor surgery) in some states that license NDs.

How will the UWS/NUHS Collaborative Program benefit me?

Students participating in the program will be able to obtain a ND degree in as little as four additional trimesters. This program allows for completion of both degrees in a shorter time frame than if taken independently. Additionally, students will benefit from cost savings and reduced loan debt.

How does the program work?

Students may decide to take some ND coursework while finishing their DC internship and then complete the ND program at NUHS in four additional trimesters. For those students who decide to finish their coursework before beginning coursework at NUHS, will spend five terms on the NUHS campus completing the ND degree requirements.

When am I eligible to apply?

You may apply in the 5th quarter (or later) of your UWS DC program. If you have already graduated from UWS, you are eligible for the program, however, the ND program must be completed within eight years of the start of your DC program.

How do I apply?

You must complete a NUHS application for the ND program. The application fee of $55 will be waived, however, you must complete a paper application (not on-line form) in order to receive the fee waiver. If accepted into the program, a $225 deposit fee will be required.

What are the admission requirements?

1. 2.50 cumulative GPA in DC program at UWS

2. grade of ‘C ‘ or better on individual DC coursework at UWS

3. completion of 11 or 12 quarters of DC program at UWS

What do I need to submit for admission consideration?

1. completed application

2. two character references

3. three essays

4. official undergraduate transcripts

5. official UWS transcript

6. phone interview

Are there any prerequisite course requirements for the ND program?

UWS students who have completed the prerequisites for the DC program at UWS, will be considered to have met the prerequisite course requirements for the ND program.

Will I be eligible for financial aid for the ND program?

Financial aid is available for any student who qualifies and is accepted into the ND program.

I transferred to UWS from another DC program. Would I qualify for the DC/ND collaborative program?

Students who have transferred to UWS from other DC programs will be individually evaluated for the ND program at NUHS. There is no guarantee that they will qualify for the same number of transfer credits as a student who completed all DC courses through UWS.

What are the living accommodations?

NUHS has apartment style housing on campus. UWS students participating in this program will have preferred status for a limited number of units each trimester.

Why did UWS partner with NUHS?

UWS has been actively searching for potential ND partner institutions for a few years. After reviewing a number of options, it was decided that NUHS offered UWS students and graduates the fastest and most affordable pathway toward the dual DC/ND degree. Appreciating the geographic challenges, NUHS is offering UWS students and graduates, who qualify for the program, preferred access to on-campus housing.
