Brief Biography:

I am from and currently working in Regina, Saskatchewan after graduating in 2020. I have since worked to get my International Certificate in Sports Chiropractic from FICS. I am currently volunteering my time to local sporting events and working at the Nest Health Centre and leading the Allied Health Team there to promote and offer collaborative care and classes to support the patient’s health and goals. I am excited for the summer this year as I will be assisting the development of a new rowing club in Weyburn, but that’s more of a passion project.

What brought you to UWS?

The weather. Kidding, it was nice being able to row year-round in Portland, but the year along program and the addition of a masters of sport medicine concurrently were the biggest draw for me. Additionally it was a great chance to experience the West Coast as I’ve already lived in western Canada, Central as well as the East Coast.

What is most rewarding about your work?

The knowledge and experience I gained from my supervisors, especially Brent Marshall, who put up with my endless questions. I have taken lessons learned from the MS and applied them today, even as I take the odd seminar while practicing. Obviously, the biggest surprise during my field work was Covid, but I was also shocked with the lack of knowledge some of the athletes and coaches had. This was a perfect gap for my education to help fill and help the athlete and team with there injuries and performance.

What do you now appreciate about your education?

Having a brother and sister in law practicing internal medicine and a couple more doing other areas, including sport; My education from UWS has allowed me to keep pace in the conversations about particular patient cases and even consulted for them in musculoskeletal conditions as well.

Is there anything you would tell your younger self?

Be ready for Covid, buy Gamestop, Haha. I wish I had know about the FICS and the scholarship and certificates they had available. I only learned about the organization after I graduated. As a student, every little bit would have been helpful for rent etc., plus building up my experience with Dr. Ray and putting that towards being selected to work some events on the world stage with FICS like I am now would have given me a nice head start on that endeavor.
