Dr. Amanda Chilcote grew up in Michigan and earned both her undergraduate degree and Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University. She later relocated to Austin, Texas, where she practiced in acute care at a Level I trauma hospital, specializing in neurorehabilitation. Dr. Chilcote went on to earn her Post-Professional Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she developed a web-based clinical decision tree to support assessment and treatment of the post-stroke upper extremity.
Dr. Chilcote has advanced training as a stroke rehabilitation specialist and is the first occupational therapist to become a Canine Rehabilitation Specialist. She has taught primarily in anatomy and neuroscience within occupational therapy programs - her two greatest professional passions. She enjoys integrating clinical experience into her teaching to help students connect foundational knowledge with real-world application.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Chilcote enjoys hiking in Forest Park in Portland with her spouse and two Irish Wolfhounds. She is also a Master Scuba Diver and can often be found underwater exploring shipwrecks and observing sharks
