Dr. Poulami Mitra earned her Bachelor’s Degree in physiology (hons), physics and chemistry from the University of Calcutta and a Master’s degree in human physiology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. After her master’s she moved to the United States to do her PhD in biochemistry at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. Her research work involved studying transporters for lipid signaling molecules. She had several publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and FEBS Letts. She briefly did post-doctoral research in obesity and diabetes at the University of Washington, Seattle and then moved to Portland to be with her family. Here in Portland, she has been associated with research at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) for a few years and has been teaching for the biology and bioscience technology departments at Portland Community College (PCC) since 2013. She also has experience in technology evaluation and commercialization and works as a consultant with a technology assessment company. Besides work, she enjoys her time with her two boys and husband.
