Michael Reed

Sports Medicine Instructor

Dr. Michael Reed was is private practice specializing in sports medicine on the Central Coast of California for more than 20 years. Dr. Reed is Board Certified in Sports Medicine and has worked with all levels of sports organizations and athletes. He served as the Team Physician for USA Weightlifting from 1988 – 2008 and was the Chairman of the Sports Medicine Committee from 1996 – 2007. He traveled as Team Physician with Team USA to 12 Weightlifting World Championships, the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. In 2004 Dr. Reed created, and was the Director of, the Southern California University of Health Sciences Sports Medicine Residency Program. In addition to his sports medicine practice, Dr. Reed was a member of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team for 18 years. While in Search and Rescue he was a medical Field Training Officer (FTO), Certified Technical Rescue Climber, Certified in White Water Rescue, and a Rescue Diver. He worked closely with the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Division (SED/SWAT) assisting with climbing training and medical back-up. In 2007 Dr. Reed was the first chiropractic doctor hired by the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). He served as the Medical Director for the USOC until 2012. While working with the USOC he was the Medical Director of the USOC High Performance Center at the 2008 Olympic Games, the Team USA Medical Director at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Team USA Medical Director at the 2011 Pan American Games, and the Team USA Medical Director at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games. Dr. Reed is semi-retired and lives on the Central Coast of California.
