Consistent with its commitment to service to its constituent communities,
the University of Western States supports and encourages education through a
variety of outreach activities provided by its clinic faculty and student
interns. Outreach events include educational presentations, informational
booths, and health screenings.

Informational booth at The Wood Village 11th Annual City Nite Out:
After competing and winning a “bed race” against
other local businesses, Gresham Integrated Care interns set up a booth to
speak to the local community about ergonomics, nutrition, and general good
health care practices. This event had over 2,000 individuals attend and was
an opportunity to interact and educate with a variety of individuals.
Massage Therapy event with the “Rosebuds: Portland’s Winterhawks hockey
team dancers
This was the first year for the major junior hockey team,
the Portland Winterhawks, to have a professional dance team. This hand on
event was an opportunity to work with the dance team, the “Rosebuds”.
World Health Day Booth at Portland Community College: Columbia
Integrated Care interns were able to set up an Informational booth for
students, faculty, and community at PCC. This provided then the opportunity
to answer questions on chiropractic and sports medicine and health care in
general.
Hood To Coast: Hood to Coast is one of the longest
relays in North America and considered the largest in the world with a
participation of over 12,000 runners. Running 197 miles, runners begin at
the top of Mt. Hood and run to Seaside Oregon. UWS participates by providing
complimentary massages and chiropractic sports medicine right at the finish
line.
Mt. Hood Community College Health and Wellness Fair: Mt.
Hood community college is located close to one of UWS’s clinics, Gresham
Integrated Care. At the Health and Wellness fair for the college’s
community, interns set up a booth discussing chiropractic and its benefits.
Other Events Include:
Public Speaking to Battleground High School and
Parkrose High School Students about a career in health care and how
chiropractic and sports medicine can benefit all ages.

at the “Rockin Around the Block” Gresham Car Show discussing ergonomics and
back safety to race car drivers.
Booths at local gyms
“Membership Appreciation Days.” This is a great opportunity to speak to
athletic individuals about preventative medicine, nutrition, and back
safety.
Lectures to major businesses in the area such as the
Oregon Steel Mill, US Bank, and Bonneville Power Administration on proper
ergonomics, safety, and health care.
