Databases

​AMED provides an alternative medicine database for physicians, therapists, medical researchers and clinicians looking to learn more about alternative treatments. AMED contains basic bibliographic records for relevant articles from over 500 journals, with the scope of coverage being mainly European. AMED is produced by the Health Care Information Service of the British Library. AMED is linked to Western States’ full text subscriptions.

​CINAHL (Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature) is the authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing for 2,960 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health which includes physical therapy and massage. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1981. CINAHL is linked to Western States’ full text subscriptions.

​Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews contains full text articles, as well as protocols focusing on the effects of healthcare. Data is evidence-based medicine and is often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually.

​The Cochrane Methodology Register (CMR) is a bibliography of publications which report on methods used in the conduct of controlled trials. It includes journal articles, books and conference proceedings; these articles are taken from the MEDLINE database and from hand searches. The database contains studies of methods used in reviews and more general methodological studies which could be relevant to anyone preparing systematic reviews. CMR records contain the title of the article, information on where it was published (bibliographic details), and in some cases, a summary of the article. CMR is produced by the UK Cochrane Centre, on behalf of the Cochrane Methodology Review Group.

​Cochrane Controlled Trials Register is a bibliography of controlled trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration and others, as part of an international effort to hand search the world's journals and create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews.

​Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE) includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world, which have been critically analyzed according to a high standard of criteria. This database provides access to quality reviews in subjects for which a Cochrane review may not yet exist.

​Educator's Reference Complete is a selection of more than 450 full-text academic journals, hundreds of full-text reports, and many premier reference sources. Included content focuses on educational principles, child development and psychology, and best practices in education. Majority of the full-text titles included are also found in the ERIC database.

​Jeffrey Bland's Functional Medicine Update Database features access to the entire archive of FMU MP3 audio files, which dates to 1997. Users may search for, download and save files for use on mobile devices. In addition to the MP3 archive, a searchable transcript database, also dating back to 1997, is included.

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: articles, theses, books, abstracts and court opinions, from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Google Scholar helps you find relevant work across the world of scholarly research.

​Health Reference Center Academic is a multi-source database provides access to the full text of nursing and allied health journals, plus the wide variety of personal health information sources in InfoTrac's award-winning Health Reference Center. All in a single, easy-to-use database, the material contained in this database is intended for informational purposes only.

​The Health Technology Assessments (HTA) database provides details of completed and ongoing health technology assessments (studies of the medical, social, ethical and economic implications of healthcare interventions) from around the world. The aim of the database is to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care. In addition to systematic reviews, HTA contains ongoing and completed research based on trials, questionnaires and economic evaluations.

​HerbalGram is home to five databases created by the American Botanical Council, one of the world leaders in traditional herbal education. These databases include a series of monographs on well known western and eastern medicinal herbs, traditional and common uses, as well as contraindications.

​The primary goal of the Index to Chiropractic Literature is to provide indexing of the peer-reviewed literature produced by chiropractic publishers.  ICL provides full bibliographic records, and abstracts are reproduced with publishers’ permissions. The Index to Chiropractic Literature is a free and publicly available web site. There is NO direct linking to UWS resources from citations found on the ICL.

MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarchy, subheadings and explosion capabilities to search citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals. Medline is linked to Western States’ full text subscriptions.​

​Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database contains the detailed, evidence-based monographs on individual natural ingredients (e.g., glucosamine, echinacea, etc). There are currently almost 1,100 monographs on these individual natural ingredients.  Also includes a Natural Product / Drug Interaction Checker.

​Natural Standard was founded by clinicians and researchers to provide high quality, evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies. This international multidisciplinary collaboration now includes contributors from more than 100 eminent academic institutions.

​The NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED) assists decision-makers in the world of professional health care by providing information on the costs and effects of drugs, treatments and procedures. Economic evaluations - the cost-benefit analysis of two or more different medical treatments - from around the world are systematically identified, described and appraised for quality while their relative strengths and weaknesses are explored and highlighted. The database contains over 6,000 abstracts of quality-assessed economic evaluations and more than 21,000 total records. NHS EED is produced by the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD) at the University of York, UK.

​PEDro is the Physiotherapy Evidence Database. PEDro is a free database of over 19,000 randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy. For each trial, review or guideline, PEDro provides the citation details, the abstract and a link to the full text, where possible.

​The Gale Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine Collection includes over 100 titles covering the fields of physical therapy and sports medicine, providing researchers with access to topics discussed in the field, including proven treatment techniques, experimental research theses, and many more.

​Primal Pictures is the ultimate online anatomy reference— a comprehensive selection of dynamic, interactive
modules featuring more than 6,500 highly accurate, three-dimensional anatomy models.
Modules focus on individual organs, regions of the body, or anatomical systems.

​PubMed comprises more than 19 million citations for biomedical articles from MEDLINE and life science journals.  Citations may include links to full-text articles from PubMed Central or through the UWS library’s subscriptions.

​RefWorks -- an online research management, writing and collaboration tool -- is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies.

​Designed for rehabilitation clinicians in a hospital setting, the database contains over 174,000 records dating back to 1963. Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Source includes access to more than 180 full-text scholarly titles in the discipline, and covers such domains as orthopedics, physiology, nutrition, sports exercise, and physical therapy.

​The TRIP Database is a clinical search tool designed to allow health professionals to rapidly identify the highest quality clinical evidence for clinical practice. TRIP is a free and publicly available website.
