Presidential Scholarship Program
Presidential Scholarships are awarded to exceptional Fall and Winter applicants. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic strength, outstanding extracurricular activities or leadership qualities.
No application is required for the Presidential Scholarship - all admitted DC students will automatically receive consideration and recipients will be notified.
Deans, Women in Chiropractic, Career Change, and Cultural Diversity Scholarships
Scholarship Application Deadlines
July 12 for Fall 2013 applicants (applicants will be notified by July 29)
November 1 for Winter 2014 applicants (applicants will be notified by November 15)
The scholarship application should be submitted to the Admissions Office with essays and other materials as required. Award amounts are determined by scholarship criteria, financial need and available funds, though typically the committee will award at least $7,500 from each of the four programs. Awards are one-time and are distributed during the first academic year (Summer-Spring) of study.
Deans Scholarship
The Dean’s Scholarship is a new scholarship for incoming DC students to reward the pursuit of scholarly and clinical excellence.
-Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, 3.75 GPA or higher in prerequisite coursework
Essay Questions (Max: 1 page per question):
*Describe an instance in which you overcame an academic or personal hurdle to excel in your studies.
* In what ways does your prior coursework go above and beyond the minimum admission requirements? What makes you particularly prepared to succeed in a competitive DC program?
* Optional: Do you have a particular area of focus/interest within the health professions (e.g. Sports science, neurology, nutrition, etc.) that you plan to integrate into DC practice?
Women in Chiropractic Scholarship
The chiropractic profession has historically been populated disproportionately by men. UWS offers the Women in Chiropractic award to encourage more women to pursue excellence in the field. Applicants must describe how they were inspired to become a Chiropractic Physician, and explore the role of women in the profession.
-Preferred Qualifications: female student, bachelor’s degree, 3.0 minimum science GPA
Essay Questions (Max: 2 pages total):
* Describe how a Doctor of Chiropractic has influenced your desire to join the chiropractic profession.
*Explore the ways and extent to which you perceive gender as relevant to the study and practice of the chiropractic profession.
Cultural Diversity Scholarship
With the goal of promoting diversity on campus and in the chiropractic profession, UWS encourages students of diverse backgrounds (including but not limited to: race, ethnicity, religion) to apply for the Cultural Diversity Scholarship. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity within the UWS and and explain how they intend to continue that tradition within their own practice upon graduation.
-Preferred Qualifications: Culturally diverse or minority background, bachelor’s degree, 3.0 minimum grade point average
Essay Question: (Max: 2 pages)
*What is your experience working with issues of diversity as an undergraduate, and how has that experience has affected you on a personal level?
* Describe how you envision continuing to support underrepresented groups as a UWS student and alum, whether in your personal and/or professional life.
Career Change Scholarship
Applicants who are making a career change to pursue the Doctor of Chiropractic degree are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit an essay reflecting on their previous professional experience and outline what has inspired them to embark on a chiropractic career.
-Preferred Qualifications: Applicants changing careers to become a Doctor of Chiropractic, bachelor’s degree, 3.0 minimum grade point average
Essay Question: (Max: 2 pages total)
*What has inspired you to leave your current/past profession and embark on a career as a Doctor of Chiropractic?
* What advantages or additional perspective do you think you bring to the table in light of your previous career experience?

Massage Therapy Scholarships 2013-2014

Scholarship Application Deadlines:
September 6 for fall 2013 applicants (award notification sent by Sept. 18)
March 7 for spring 2014 applicants (award notification sent by March 19)
Preferred Qualifications for all MT scholarships:
Minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent in most recent academic setting (or a score of 550+ on GED exam)
The scholarship application should be submitted to the Admissions Office with typed answers to essays and other materials as required. Typically $1,000 will be awarded annually for each of these programs:
Massage Therapy Cultural Diversity Scholarship
UWS awards this scholarship to encourage applicants with diverse backgrounds or who represent an underrepresented population in the massage profession.

1. How do you see yourself as an underrepresented person in the massage profession?
2. What has been your previous involvement, at school, work or in your personal life to promote or foster diversity?
Community Service and Leadership:
The Community Service and Leadership Scholarship
Recognizes demonstrated dedication to service and volunteerism in the student’s community.
Essay Questions (2 pages maximum):
1. Describe your leadership and community service experience and why you feel you deserve this award.
2. What are your career goals? What populations would you like to work with and what type of practice do you envision for yourself?
General Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all incoming massage therapy students who wish to apply.
